News from Carse Cottage…

About us

We are a family relatively new to Galloway, having moved from Liverpool to enjoy a new way of life and the glorious countryside. Our cottage is a more modern wing of a 19th century farmhouse, originally positioned on part of a drovers road from Portpatrick to London. The accommodation is a relatively new conversion, forming a self contained cottage with its own entrance.

Our hens.

Our house, Carse of Trostrie is set in a quiet, secluded location but within easy access of the A75 and the facilities offered by local towns and villages. The house is set in an acre of gardens nestling in farmland with views towards the sea, the Isle of Man and the distant Lakeland fells.

The gardens of Carse cottage are home to an abundance of wildlife including birds, bats, stoats, and our brood of hens and Indian runner ducks, who wander unchecked. You may also catch a glimpse of a cheeky ginger tom cat, Pickle, who wants to be involved in everything, particularly climbing trees!

We care about the environment.

We have considered the environment in the conversion of our cottage. It is exceptionally well insulated with good ventilation, so will stay warm and comfortable whatever the weather. Energy saving appliances are used where possible and electricity is sourced from regional hydropower stations.

We are avid recyclers and would encourage you to be also, we provide you with recycling bags and will remove your waste to the local recycling centre. We also compost and there are bins provided for guests. The cleaning materials used are all biodegradable to protect our septic tanks and local water courses. We provide washing up liquid, washing powder, fabric conditioner and hand soap.
